Winter Is Coming

As the dark days of winter approach and the temperature plummets, the cold reality of the departure of summer has now started to bite. However, despite the meteorological misery, there is cause for optimism – and not just because we now have a few good months free from the scourge of mass ‘out of office’ replies.

Many current and past MTSG members will now have qualified and started new jobs buoyed by the recent removal of the traineeship-broadcasting prefixes from job titles. More exciting, however, is the arrival of hundreds new Trainee Solicitors to Manchester’s many firms and the consequential proliferation of incredibly exciting MTSG events and opportunities.

Launch Party

The first of these events is our amazing MTSG Launch Party at the extravagant and opulent Club LIV, Manchester on 1 October. The exclusive venue (which is being opened on a weekday especially for MTSG) promises to be a resounding success and an incredibly enjoyable night (not to mention a late one). A huge thank you in advance to Sholeh Alemi, Christina Rees and our newest addition to the MTSG committee, Hannah Morrison of Brabners LLP for all of their hard work in organising the event.

A little bird told me…

I would encourage MTSG members to follow us on Twitter. We’ll be announcing events and opportunities there first and will enable members to sign up to events while capacity lasts. Our handle is @mcrTSG – and we’re happy to answer questions you might have on there as well as by email.

We also have a group on Facebook which is a great place to open a dialogue with fellow members and raise any issues which you’d like to discuss or even to be raised with the Manchester Law Society or the Junior Lawyers Division.

More Than Just Merriment

While it is easy to associate MTSG with its vibrant schedule of social activities, there are also scores of other activities for members. Amongst these are our various career-enhancing opportunities arranged by our education secretaries Rachel Forbes and Joe Ailion. MTSG has, over the years, forged strong links with local universities, chambers, law schools and various other organisations. Check out our twitter, website and regular MTSG update emails for details of our many opportunities which you can use to develop extra-curricular skills and enhance your CV!

If you’ve any comments or suggestions for the types of opportunities you’d like MTSG to provide then please feel free to get in touch with our Education Secretaries Rachel.Forbes@pinsentmasons.com and Joe.Ailion@slatergordon.co.uk.

Forever Manchester & British Heart Foundation

MTSG will also be upholding its dedication to charitable causes over the coming year, and we are pleased to announce that this year we will be supporting two charities: Forever Manchester as our local charitable cause and the British Heart Foundation as our chosen national charity. We will have a variety of fundraising events and voluntary opportunities taking place over the next twelve months so please do get involved to support these worthy causes, and if you have any particular ideas for fundraising activities (anyone for skydiving?!) please contact our Charities Secretary, Cesca, at Francesca.Norris@slatergordon.co.uk.
