Socials, Socials, Socials

The MTSG Halloween and Bonfire night event was held at speakeasy-style bar Arcane on 3 November, and was kindly sponsored by BCL Legal. Members were treated to magic tricks and toffee apples, and feasted on pizza from local Italian restaurant, Al Bacio. The drinks flowed and as always, a great night was had by all who came! Pictured below at the event are Didi Ogbo (General Secretary), Alex Herbert (FELT Director) and Seraphina Wilkins (Social Director). Our Social Directors are well underway planning the End of January Blues event (with a twist)!

MTSG Winter Ball

The MSTG started the Christmas celebrations in style on 24 November with the much-anticipated Winter Wonderland Ball. The magical black tie event was held at the stunning Hallé St Peter’s church in Ancoats. The sold-out evening boasted everything from a festive drinks reception, to hours of fun dancing to an incredible band under lasers and a snowfall of confetti. Attendees won some fantastic prizes during the charity raffle, successfully raising funds for our sponsored charities and continued the celebrations into the night at the official after party which was held at Lost in Tokyo, Northern Quarter.

The Ball Directors worked tirelessly alongside our sponsors, QED Legal, Workshare, Slater Heelis LLP and JMW Solicitors LLP, to put together an evening not to forget. The Ball Directors have shown us they know how to throw a good party, so the Summer Ball which is to be held on 23 June 2017 is one to get into your diary now! I would like to say a massive thank you to the Ball Directors, Nikki Hussey, Aisling Bassett and Charlotte King for all the hard work they put into the event.

The next event in the FELT calendar, and finishing 2016 off with a bang, is a Christmas Wine Tasting event at La Vina, Deansgate, sponsored by Hays.  The evening is set to be an excellent opportunity to network and socialise, whilst toasting in the festive season with some fantastic wine and food. This years’ FELT Director, Alex Herbert says “It’s going to be a fantastic evening and such a nice start to December! It will be especially nice for those in smaller firms, who will be able to socialise with other trainees around Christmas time.”

With various whites, reds and cavas provided by La Vina, combined with excellent food and the view of the Christmas lights along Deansgate, this event is not one to be missed! To secure your place at the event, tickets will shortly be going on sale for £5 with limited spaces available so be sure to act quickly to avoid missing out.

Dust away those January Blues...

…by booking on to our city weekend break. This year and in addition to the MTSG ski trip, we have decided to organise a long weekend away in a European city, which will be held in May 2017. Keep your eyes peeled in the New Year for more information in relation to the destination, costs and the various events that will be planned on the trip.

We Ask Our Members

I wanted to get our MTSG members more involved with The Messenger article I prepare each month by randomly selecting three members from our membership list and asking them the same question. To kick this off and given that the Christmas markets are in full swing, I asked “What is your favourite stall at the Manchester Christmas markets?”

Emma Thomas, Trainee Solicitor at Brabners: “My favourite stall at the Christmas Markets is the stall selling hot chocolate (with a cheeky shot of baileys) because it keeps you warm whilst you’re soaking up the Christmas spirit.”

Matt Jones, Paralegal and Future Trainee Solicitor at Squire Patton Boggs: “The macaron stall would be my favourite given my own terrible sweet tooth, whilst they also make excellent (and often last minute) gifts. However, I never forget to visit the Glühwein stalls, they definitely make Christmas shopping a much smoother process!”

Charlotte Baetul, Trainee Solicitor at Kuit Steinart Levy: “My favourite stall is the one on King Street specialising in French soaps and all things French. I absolutely love France and visiting the stall takes me back to being in my favourite city ever – Paris!”

Wishes from the MTSG Committee

As this is my last article in 2016 for The Messenger, I and all those on the MTSG Committee would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
